Lex Potential – a case study
"Lex Potential is the best programme we have ever done in Lex. It has
delivered on all its objectives and Inspirations were absolutely pinnacle
to its success..."
Antonia Pickles HR Director
The Challenge
Lex, owned by HBOS, is the largest vehicle leasing company in the UK with a fleet of circa 180,000. Lex prides itself on its vision of being a "World Class Vehicle Leasing business."
The Lex Potential Programme was launched in February 2006 to address shortcomings identified in an organisational competence review and the need for a consistent approach to the development of Middle and Senior Managers.
A focus was needed on adding value rather then remedial development; self awareness was to feature strongly in order to build the management and leadership capability in Lex. The programme's intention was to provide challenging, innovative and thought-provoking development.
The Solution
Lex Potential was designed from the outset as integrated cutting edge development rather than a series of unconnected training courses. For this reason, the programme consisted of a blend of learning approaches including Workshops; Peer Feedback; Executive Coaching; Mentoring; Business Projects; External Networking and Action Learning.
Based on the review of organisational competence, the programme addressed the following areas:
- Customer Focus
- Continuous Improvement
- Team Working
- Leading Change
- Pioneering
The Benefits
70% of the cohort has been promoted within the organisation. Two years on, 100% of the participants still work for Lex. A second Lex Potential programme was launched in July 2007 and a third one is scheduled to be launched in January 2009.
In addition to these tangible measures, many changes have been identified by senior managers in the participants:
- Greater inner confidence and self-belief
- Improved self-awareness and awareness of personal impact on others
- The ability to give constructive feedback
- Development of a strong peer network
- More considered thinking and more rounded decision making
- Forward thinking and being prepared to take responsibility
- Confidence to deal with complex and difficult issues
