Gateshead Housing Company – Vision & Values Workshops
“This workshop has given me a different perspective on what the
new company means and how I should work in the future”
Trish Slater, Estate Officer, Gateshead Housing Company
Gateshead Housing Company was formed as one of the new Arms Length Management Organisations, operating under a Board of Directors to manage the housing stock on behalf of Gateshead Council.
The Challenge
In all successful businesses the leaders provide a vision for the company and it was high on the Board's agenda to communicate this vision and a set of values to everyone.
The new team – approximately 300 in number – was made up of individuals who moved over from a variety of departments around Gateshead Council, as well as individuals who joined the organisation from outside.
What they wanted was a motivational and memorable event to enable everyone to see where the new company was going.
The Solution
Inspirations delivered a series of lively and highly creative workshops, which involved everyone, from the caretakers to the estate officers and the architects. Participants created pictures to represent the vision for the Housing Company, completed a puzzle to enable them to understand the structure of the new business and agreed the behaviours that would underpin their new business. Under the guidance of an Inspirations facilitator, they achieved:
- Clarity of the vision for the company and an understanding of the part each one of them would need to play.
- A clear picture of how each role would fit within the business.
- A set of behaviours to underpin the values.
The Benifits
The key outcomes of the workshops were:
- That each member of the team had the knowledge of what their newly formed business was striving for.
- A set of practical behaviours, for each team member to implement.
